Erich Raubenheimer

Erich Raubenheimer was the head of an academic department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at a South African dental school for 34 years and joined a large private pathology practice as a senior consultant eight years ago. He authored 134 scientific publications in peer reviewed journals, one third of which is on the African elephant, which he tracked and researched extensively for 17 years. His PhD degree is on the structure and composition of elephant ivory. Erich is married to Claudia, a Dentomaxillofacial Radiologist and they have four children and four grandchildren.

Prof Katrina Kavvadia

Professor  Kavvadia received her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and Masters from the University of Connecticut,  her PhD from the University of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Greece,  her Graduate Certificate in Health Professionals Education from the University of Louisville, KY, USA and  is a Diplomate of the American  Board  of Pediatric Dentistry.   She  is currently Professor of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental School Academic Program Coordinator,  at the European University Cyprus, as well as member of the International Association of Pediatric Dentistry science Committee.  With more than 28 years experience in Academics in all aspects of dental education, didactic, clinical/patient care and research mentoring (both MS and PhD students) she  has graduated more than 80 residents worldwide. Previous positions held were  tenured faculty and Graduate Program director of Pediatric Dentistry, University of Louisville, KY,  Chair and Program director at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, University of Athens Greece,  Program director at the European University College, Dubai-UAE, and Chair of the Education Committee of the European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She has served as Editor of the Hellenic Pediatric Dental Journal  and has received  awards for her work in International Conferences.    Her scholarly activity includes over 70 publications and chapters in textbooks.  She is serving as reviewer of several International peer reviewed journals and has lectured worldwide as an invited speaker and has participated in over 180 presentations in congresses and many continuous education courses.  Her research interests are  focused on the development of active teaching strategies in  dental education to increase student engagement and enhance deep learning and critical thinking, as well as  applications of AI in pediatric dentistry.

Dr. Lisa V. Adams is the Associate Dean for Global Health, Director of The Center for Global Health Equity, and a Professor of Medicine in the Infectious Disease and International Health Section at Dartmouth. She designs and leads interdisciplinary global health programs and teaches and mentors students in global health. She is an expert in international childhood TB and TB/HIV healthcare delivery with a focus on advancing health equity in practice and in education. Mala graduated in Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Melbourne in 1988. She spent several years in hospital and private general dental practice in both Melbourne and abroad before completing her Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry in 1995 and her Master’s Degree in Paediatric Dentistry in 1997 at the University of Melbourne, Australia.  

Mala has a busy and innovative private specialist practice restricted to paediatric dentistry in Melbourne, Australia. She is a Consultant Paediatric Dentist at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, where she treats children with salivary drooling and oro-motor dysfunction. In her position as a Clinical Demonstrator and Lecturer in Paediatric Dentistry, she is also actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate training and examining at the University of Melbourne and the Royal Dental Hospital Melbourne. She has held positions on various committees including previously having been the Executive Secretary of the Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry and President of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Paediatric Dentistry. She is currently part of the Membership Committee, International Association of Paediatric Dentistry.

Mala has presented lectures and workshops extensively in Australia and overseas on various aspects of paediatric dentistry. Her research interests include dentistry for children with disabilities and special needs, oromotor dysfunction, developmental dental defects, dental trauma, pulp therapy and restorative treatment in the primary and young permanent dentition.

Her interests outside dentistry are varied and revolve around a busy family life - she is married and has three sons.

Dr. Martha Ann Keels

Dr. Martha Ann Keels received her dental degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She received a certificate of pediatric dentistry from the University of North Carolina, where she also completed her Ph.D. in Epidemiology. In 1991, she established the Pediatric Dental program at Duke University Medical Center where she served as the division chief of Pediatric Dentistry at Duke Children's Hospital for 25 years. She is also board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD.  Dr. Keels holds fellowships in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.  She was elected to membership in OKU as a dental student. Dr. Keels is presently immediate past president of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry as well as past president of the NIH ~ IADR Pediatric Oral Health Research Group.  She has served as president of the North Carolina Academy of Pediatric Dentistry; she is presently on the editorial board of Journal of Dental Research and Pediatric Dentistry; she has served on the Council for Clinical Affairs and Scientific Affairs for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She served as the chair of the Section of Pediatric Dentistry and Oral Health within the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)  from 2004- 2010. She was awarded the 2020 Special Achievement Award from AAP.  She has served on the Council of Scientific Affairs for the ADA and serves on two ADA Panels writing guidelines for restorative care and updating the FDA radiographic guidelines. Dr. Keels has received numerous recognitions for her research ~ the Pfeiffer Foundation Research Fellowship, the Quintessence Award for Research Achievement, the Derek Turner Research Award in Clinical Sciences and the NIH Dentist-Scientist Award. She received NIH funding for six years for an epidemiological study of water fluoridation; currently, she is the PI for the Duke University site for a 15 year funded NIH grant studying caries risk assessment in children since age 1. She also studies dental acid erosion and periodontal disease in pediatric patients. She enjoys helping pediatric dentists with challenging patients.

Joana is a consultant and clinical lecturer in Paediatric Dentistry at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. Prior to this, Joana worked in different paediatric and dental hospitals around the world, including Sydney, Leeds, Great Ormond Street and Eastman Dental Hospitals in London and in Coimbra, Portugal.

Joana’s clinical and research interests focus on provision of care for children with enamel defects, including molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) and amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) and metabolic bone disorders. She is the current chair of the UK Paediatric Dentistry clinical excellence group in amelogenesis imperfecta/dentinogenesis imperfecta and is undertaking a PhD at the University of Sheffield.

Lekan is currently a Professor and the Head of the School of Health Systems and Public Health at the University of Pretoria, having previously served as Dean and Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, both at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. Prof Ayo-Yusuf is NRF B-rated scientist and his research areas include behavioural epidemiology and policy evaluation for non-communicable diseases prevention. In particular, he has been an investigator and/or co-investigator on national and international research, including clinical trials and capacity-building projects related to tobacco use prevention, smoking cessation and policy advocacy, with special interest in youth prevention programmes.

Prof Ayo-Yusuf has over 140 peer-reviewed scientific publications. He is a member of a number of editorial boards of international journals, and national and international scientific groups, including serving as a member of the Lancet Commission on Oral Health, member of the WHO Tobacco Regulation Scientific Group, the Chair of the standing Committee on Health of the Academy of Science of South Africa and of the Gauteng Provincial Health Research Committee.

Dr. Norman Tinanoff received his dental degree from the University of Maryland in 1971.  After receiving his certificate and master’s degree in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Iowa, he spent another year at the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City in a research fellowship.  For 23 years he was at the University of Connecticut Health Center where he was director of the Pediatric Dentistry graduate program for 16 years.  In 1999, he became Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Maryland.  Dr. Tinanoff has authored or co-authored over 225 publications, primarily on fluoride mechanisms, antimicrobials, caries risk factors, early childhood caries and prevention.  He is currently on the IAPD Board in the role of IAPD Editor.

He published many papers in the field of pediatric dentistry and supervised many master degree and  Phd thesis for postgraduate students in pediatric dentistry.

Dr Osama lectured in many international conferences held in Egypt and other countries. He did many courses and workshops on full mouth rehab for children under GA, pulp therapy, full ceramic restoration for primary teeth and management of traumatic injuries.

He is the Co-editor of the Advancements in pediatric dentistry journal, and a peer reviewer in many of the International journals.

He is now the head of the Pediatric Dentistry Department, Future University in Cairo, He is the president of ESPSN (The Egyptian Society of Pediatric Dentistry and Children with Special Needs) and the president of the ArAPD (Arabian Academy of pediatric dentistry).

Raman Bedi is an Emeritus Professor at King’s College London.   He has significantly influenced the domains of paediatric dentistry and paediatric public health dentistry and, in 2024, was elected as the President of the World Federation of Public Health Associations, the first dentist to hold that position.  He was elected, and over 65 percent of national public health associations voted for him.

He served as the Chief Dental Officer for England from 2002 to 2005.  He founded the Global Child Dental Fund to reduce childhood dental disease globally. He led this organisation for 16 years, which is estimated to have improved the oral health of over 350 million children.  Raman Bedi created and led the Senior Dental Leadership (SDL) Programme, a prestigious initiative to develop leadership skills among senior dental professionals worldwide. The programme collaborates with King's College London, Harvard University, and the Global Child Dental Fund. Under his leadership, over 250 senior dentists, many of whom were Chief Dental Officers, attended the programme.

His academic work includes over 250 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and he has an h-index of 50 and over 7600 citations.

Professor Bedi has a long and outstanding career in public life; he served ten years on the Church of England’s General Synod and co-chaired its Race and Community Affairs committee.  A trustee of the Children’s Society and the organisation awarded him a Lifetime award.  A founding trustee of the Leadership Foundation in Higher Education and member of the Higher Education Wider Participation Committee. Recently, he became President of the UK Christian Dental Fellowship.

Prof. Ola B. Al-Batayneh

Ola B. Al-Batayneh is currently a Professor and Consultant in Pediatric dentistry at Department of Orthodontics, Pediatric and Community Dentistry, College of Dental Medicine, University of Sharjah, UAE. She is also an affiliated Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST). She obtained her dental degree at JUST, and later, a specialty degree and Fellowship in pediatric dentistry at the University of Queensland, Australia and  the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, Sydney, Australia.

Currently, she is Discipline Lead, and Program Director of the “soon to launch in September, 2025” MDS in Pediatric Dentistry Program at University of Sharjah. She has been in several administrative positions including: Assistant Dean and Head of Department at Faculty of Dentistry, JUST, and Head of the Pediatric Dentistry Division at King Abdullah University Hospital/KAUH for several years.  She was Head of the Pediatric Dentistry Board exams at Medical Council in Jordan and Vice President of the Jordanian Society of Pediatric Dentistry. She is currently a member in the NIHS Specialty Examination Subcommittee in Pediatric Dentistry of the UAE Board in Pediatric Dentistry.

Ola has participated in several international research collaborations with educational institutions, has supervised over 30 theses on topics related to pediatric dentistry. Research interests and publications cover several topics related to pediatric dentistry, such as dental anomalies, minimally invasive dentistry, early childhood caries, and molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH). She has published more than 60 research papers/books/articles in peer-reviewed reputable international journals, with more than 1000 citations, in addition to 60 abstracts and being a speaker at many local and international conferences on these topics. Dr. Desigar Moodley

Dr. Desigar Moodley currently serves as the Director of Education at EDGE - Global Dental Academy in Belgium and as Chief Scientific Officer and Researcher at the Smile and Education Centre in Austria. He has extensive experience in private practice in East London and previously held the role of Senior Lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of the Western Cape.

Dr. Moodley holds a PhD in Restorative Dentistry, Master's in Restorative Dentistry, a Postgraduate Diploma in Aesthetic Dentistry (Cum Laude) and a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (Cum Laude). He is the recipient of multiple prestigious awards, including the Hatton Award for best postgraduate research, the Lever Ponds Scholarship, and the Pameijar Scholarship for his research on the cytotoxicity of dentine bonding agents. Additionally, he was recognized as Best Outgoing Undergraduate Dental Student and received Gold Medals in Prosthodontics, Oral and Dental Anatomy, Pharmacology, and Oral and Dental Pathology. He is also a Fellow of the International College of Dentists.

An internationally respected lecturer, Dr. Moodley has presented on a wide range of topics, including stem cell research, local anesthetics, endodontics, dentine bonding agents, composites, pediatric crowns, and prosthodontics. He has also conducted numerous hands-on workshops. He is the author of several scientific publications and has contributed to and edited chapters in dental textbooks.

Dr. Duangthip is an Associate Professor at The Ohio State University.

She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and a Master of Science (MSc) in Dental Public Health from the University of Hong Kong, a Doctor of Dentistry (Dr. med. dent.) from the University of Bern, Switzerland, and a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS) in Dental Public Health.

Dr. Duangthip is listed among the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists in 2024. She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles. Her research interests focus on early childhood caries management, silver diamine fluoride treatment, and community dental care. Currently, she serves as Specialty Chief Editor at Frontiers in Dental Medicine, and as an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Pediatric Dentistry and BMC Oral Health. In addition, Dr. Duangthip is a Past President of the Pediatric Oral Health Research Group of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the Past President of the Society of Preventive Dentistry of Hong Kong (SPDHK).

Professor Bekes is Head of the Department of Paediatric Dentistry at the Medical University of Vienna in Austria. She graduated from the University of Halle in Germany in 2002. After graduating, Dr. Bekes was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Operative Dentistry and Periodontology at the University of Halle. Later, she was an Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatric Dentistry at that university. Meanwhile, Prof. Bekes completed a Master of Medical Education at the University of Heidelberg.
She was General Secretary of the German Society of Paediatric Dentistry for 11 years. Since 2019 she is President of the German Society of Paediatric Dentistry, since 2016 she is Vice President of the Austrian Society of Paediatric Dentistry. Furthermore, she is observing councillor of the European and International Academy of Paediatric Dentistry for Austria. Prof. Bekes founded the only competence center for patients with MIH in Austria. She has published and lectured widely in molar incisor hypomineralization and related fields. Furthermore, she published five books.

Prof. Archer has held prominent editorial roles in esteemed academic journals. She served as the editor-in-chief for the 2023 special edition of Perspectives in Education titled "Adaptable, Resilient, and Future-Centric Higher Education" in South Africa. In 2022, she led the special edition of Mathematics on "Applications of Data Mining Algorithms and Big Data Analytics in Education," an international journal. As an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Education, she was the editor-in-chief for the 2021 special edition "Online Assessment for Humans: Advancements, Challenges, and Futures for Digital Assessment" and is currently editing a special issue on "Educational Evaluation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence." Currently, she is the chief editor for the book “Transforming Higher Education Through Artificial Intelligence: Innovations and Insights from the Global South”.

An advocate for integrating technology in education, Prof. Archer supervises numerous Master's and Doctoral students. She believes technology enhances efficiency and empowers students to focus on conceptual understanding and innovative thinking. He is president of KADH (Korean associations for disability and oral health)  and President elect of KAPD(Korean Academy of Pediatric Dentistry). He received dental degree (DDS, MSD, PhD) from Seoul National University, Korea and worked for the advanced research at UCLA. I graduated from LFUK in Bratislava.  In 2011, together with my husband, we founded the SOMADENT clinic in Stará Tura, where we, together with other doctors, offer above-standard dental treatment under a microscope and a comprehensive treatment protocol. Inspired by foreign clinics, we have specialized in individual dental disciplines under one roof, in which we are constantly learning and sharing newly acquired information together. My specialty is pedostomatology and orthodontics. During internships abroad, I learned that as dentists we can help children much more than just fixing teeth in a fun way. I focus my attention on finding the causes of problems and tracking the connection of broken, crooked teeth with the overall health and development of patients. I try to help children together with my colleagues to create a quality life for them with a nice smile. Satisfied and happy patients motivate me to study further.

I dedicate myself to lecturing on a comprehensive view of the patient and educating colleagues and the public in the early treatment of pediatric patients.
