here is what you can expect to get involved in during our exciting outreach portfolio for the 2025 IPD Congress
In collaboration with dental wellness trust we will be screening treating an educating hundreds of children from two local schools in Cape Town.
Founded in 2011 by leading London dentist, Dr Linda Greenwall – the Dental Wellness Trust charity has one simple mission and that’s to improve the general health and wellbeing of young children through dental wellness – especially those most in need. They already have an established footprint in Cape Town through their ongoing community service initiatives including“Toothbrush Mamas” project where they teach the children how to brush their teeth, wash their hands and basic life skills. Over 12,000 children attend daily to brush their teeth and wash their hands with clean water, and each year the Dental Wellness Trust holds a graduation ceremony to congratulate the children for all their hard work and effort.
We will also be joined by Alice Grasveld -the winner of the Colgate Smile BSBF award in 2023 and a passionate and experienced educator specifically to children. She has conducted research in Kenya and is very familiar with the oral health crisis in Africa.
Once the period of two days we will be screening educating and treating the children showcasing the SAAPD's mobile clinic as well as the mobile clinics of the Dental Wellness Trust and the University of the Western Cape.
We have no doubt that this volunteer experience will leave you feeling fulfilled, knowing you’ve made a real impact. It will be meaningful, rewarding, and, most of all, an unforgettable experience filled with connection, joy, and purpose. Not only will you be giving back, but you’ll also have fun, create lasting memories, and truly feel the heart of South Africa.
